There were a lot of fights among punks, headbangers and skinheads in that time. Many people could see the Mystifier performance development at clubs like Gamboa, Ufba Garage Rock, Plataforma Rock Bar, among others. The band began to play in several places in their city. This was the first recording done by a Death/Black Metal band in the Brazilian northeast. The band recorded it's very first demo-tape in November of 1989 and was titled "Tormenting The Holy Trinity", with nine songs and a cover song, "Massacre", from Bathory. They were: Meugninuosouan (vocalist), Behemoth (guitarist) and Lucifuge Rofocale (drummer).įor the next four months, they were composing stuff for their first releasing and also they were rehearsed extensively. Then he gathered some members from the old bands that he has taken part to complete the new band. After playing on several bands in his home town (Death Vomit, Putrefaction, Corpus Christi, and others), Beelzeebubth decided to form his own band. And yet, just when you think you know what will happen next, it changes the formula and drags you along a new avenue or three.Black metal band from Salvador, Bahía, Brazil, created in 1989.īeelzeebubth - bass (1989-1999), guitar (2000-present)ĭiego DoUrden - bass, keyboards, vocals (2013-present)Įduardo "Warmonger" Amorim - drums (2016-present)ġ989. It channels the band’s roots while blasting away with licks, the vocals (quite literally) cackling like a mad hell hound. Track six (six, six?), ‘Demoler las Torres del Cielo’, neatly sums the album up, without making the rest of it redundant. The vocals rasp, hiss and shriek, as you’d expect, but it’s really the drums and guitars that stand out, as they speed up and slow down with great skill, hit a hook, but then do something completely different before you have time to get bored. While there are huge riffs and catchy chords, each song has layer upon layer of sections, breakdowns, tempo shifts and tangents. They’ve worked hard on this album, and it shows. Like most veteran bands with any sense, they have kept their sound intact but still tried to make it sound fresh, the subject matter now not only dwelling on the ol’ Satanism but political themes ranging from terrorism to clerical sex abuse. Fast forward to 2019, and Mystifier’s fifth album, Protogoni Mavri Magiki Dynasteia ( Season of Mist) gives us a perfect excuse to revisit the band and drool over its greatness.
